Québec’s Consumer Protection Act (LPC) sets strict rules for gym contracts. A few minutes of reading can save you months of payments.

Do

Read the cancellation clause before you sign anything.
Verify the gym’s OPC permit number on-site or online.
Ask for the total annual cost in writing, taxes and fees included.
Get the cooling-off period confirmed in the contract text.

Watch out for

Auto-renewal clauses that quietly extend your term.
“Free” trials that convert into paid contracts without a clear opt-out.
Contracts longer than one year without a real justification.
Verbal promises that don’t appear anywhere in the signed document.
